Congratulations on your acceptance to UC San Diego.  Summer Session is open to all freshmen and transfer students who have been admitted to UC San Diego in the Fall.  Jumpstart your undergraduate program by enrolling in popular courses and connecting with peers and faculty before the Fall rush.

Financial Aid is available to new Tritons!  For eligibility, contact the Financial Aid Office.

Housing is available Summer through Fall move-in.  For information, contact Summer Housing.

Program Description
Summer Bridge (academic credit)

This program helps to set the stage for academic success by helping students learn about campus resources, mentoring, counseling, and more through two academic courses.

Summer Bridge Traditional 4-week program (Dates TBD)

Summer Bridge Math Track 5-week program (Dates TBD)

  • 9 academic units
  • Application by invitation only

Summer Engineering Institute (academic credit) Newly admitted freshman engineering students can get a jump start on their academic studies through introductory engineering courses.  
  • Earn 7 academic units
  • Application by invitation only
  • Deadline to apply: TBD
  • Only incoming freshmen admitted to an engineering major may apply
  • Program dates: TBD
Summer Program for Incoming Students (SPIS) (non credit)

Open to incoming freshmen accepted into CSE and related majors, this program provides college-level exposure to computer science.

Summer Session (academic credit) Jumpstart your education by earning credit in the Summer before your Fall term!  Choose from over 200 lower division courses. Here is a sample of the most popular courses taken by freshmen in the Summer:
  • BILD 4 - Introductory Biology Lab
  • CHEM 6A - General Chemistry I
  • CSE 5A - Introduction to Programming I
  • ECON 1 - Principles of Microeconomics
  • MATH 20C - Calculus and Analytic Geometry for Science & Engineering

Courses should be taken for a letter grade unless you have verified that the course can be taken Pass/Not Pass.

Triton Edge (academic credit) A 5-week summer residential program for incoming international freshmen who want to enhance academic writing skills, complete GE requirements, learn about UCSD/community resources, and more.
  • Enroll in 8 academic units
  • Deadline to apply: TBD
  • Only incoming international freshmen may apply
  • Courses held in Summer Session 2 (August 7 to September 9)

Some courses require placement exams (Math, Chemistry, Language) and other courses have prerequisites. If you have Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) check the AP or IB charts for more information.

If you have taken courses at a California Community College refer to assist.org to ensure that you are not duplicating course credit.

Program Description
Summer Academy (academic credit) Five-week residential program for transfer students.
  • Earn 8-10 academic units in gateway courses in your major
  • For majors in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, & Mathematics
  • Program dates: Aug 7 - Sept 9 (Summer Session 2)
Summer Transfer Ahead Research Training Program (START) (non credit) Provides Transfer students with lab research experience.
  • Only open to UCSD admits who are committed to a career in basic or clinical research
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to also apply to the Summer Academy (see above)
  • Program dates: TBD
Transfer ENG PrEP (non credit) Three-day program prepares incoming transfer engineering students for the rigor of engineering studies.
