Application & Enrollment

Returning Summer only students must complete a new Summer Session online application each year.

Current UC San Diego Students

Enrollment is a 3 step process. You will be able to see your appointment time on WebReg during the week of April 9 - 13, 2018. UCSD students can enroll directly through WebReg beginning April 16, based on your appointment time. 

  1. Enroll in courses via WebReg
    • Session 1 and Special Session - April 16 to June 25 
    • Session 2 - April 16 to July 30
  2. Pay tuition and fees. If you do not pay for your courses by the fee deadlines, you may be cancelled from your courses. 
    • Session I and Special Session billing due date - June 25, 2018
    • Session II billing due date - July 30, 2018
    • Please refer to the Calendar for important deadlines.
    • Financial Aid students: you may not be dropped for nonpayment, which means if you forget to drop unwanted courses, you may receive a grade of "F" for non-attendance and be billed for the courses.
  3. Double check your academic record to confirm that you are enrolled in the correct course(s).

Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students to UC San Diego

  1. Starting March, browse the Schedule of Classes on TritonLink for the Summer course offerings.
  2. Accept your offer of admissions before the deadline.  Be sure to complete all requirements on your checklist.
  3. Activate your Summer Session enrollment status (log in with PID and password).
  4. Complete the Academic Integrity Tutorial.
  5. Request preauthorization. 
    • If the course(s) you plan to take has prerequisites or restrictions, please submit a preauthorization request via the Enrollment Authorization System (EASy).
    • The academic department or program staff will review your request.  In some cases, your request will be forwarded to the instructor for approval.
    • Some courses require placement exams (Math, Chemistry, Language) and other courses have prerequisites.  If you have Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) check the AP or IB charts for more information.
    • If you have taken courses at a California Community College refer to assist.org to ensure that you are not duplicating course credit.
  6. Enroll in courses via WebReg
    • Session 1 and Special Session - April 23 to June 25 
    • Session 2 - April 23 to July 30
  7. Pay tuition and fees. If you do not pay for your courses by the fee deadlines, you may be cancelled from your courses. 
    • Session I and Special Session billing due date - June 25, 2018
    • Session II billing due date - July 30, 2018

  8. Double check your academic record to confirm that you are enrolled in the correct course(s).
  9. Access your UCSD email account by using the Account Lookup Tool with Educational Technology Services.

International freshmen are invited to participate in Triton Edge, an all-inclusive, rigorous summer program that provides a pathway to advancing toward your UC San Diego degree.

Visiting UC Students

Enrollment for Summer Session begins April 23, 2018 for Visiting UC students.

Please note: Transcripts from UC San Diego are automatically sent to your home UC campus at the end of the summer term.  All UC San Diego courses are for UC credit and calculated into your UC GPA.

  1. Starting March, browse the Schedule of Classes on TritonLink for the Summer course offerings. Contact your academic advisor to confirm that your home UC campus will accept course credit from the course(s) you wish to enroll at UC San Diego.
  2. Obtain a UserID (PID) and password  KEEP TRACK OF YOUR PID and PASSWORD. You will need it to make changes to classes, order transcripts and pay your bill on TritonLink.  
    • If you applied to UC San Diego for Admission or have taken Summer Session classes at UC San Diego in the past, you may already have a UserID (PID). If you have forgotten your PID, please call Summer Session (858) 534-5258.
    • If you experience any errors while resetting your password, please follow the steps in this document to override the errors.   
  3. Once you complete Step 2, you will automatically be redirected to complete the Summer Session online application.
    • You will be assessed a $50 nonrefundable application fee regardless of enrollment status. If you change your mind and no longer wish to enroll with UC San Diego, you are still responsible for paying the $50 nonrefundable application fee. Students must complete a new application every year. 
  4. Complete the Academic Integrity Tutorial.

  5. Request preauthorization. 
    • If the course(s) you plan to take has prerequisites or restrictions, please submit a preauthorization request via the Enrollment Authorization System (EASy).

High School Students

High school students currently in grades 9 to 11 must have parental consent prior to applying to Summer Session. Students must maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA.  All courses taken are for UC credit and will be calculated into your UC GPA.

High school students currently in grade 12 are not considered in this category since you will have graduated from high school when Summer Session begins.

Housing on campus is only offered to students age 17+.

Inform your high school counselor/teacher that you intend to enroll in Summer Session at UC San Diego.  You may wish to discuss what this means to your high school curriculum, future AP courses, and college/university application.
    • High school students are allowed to enroll in lower-division courses, which are courses numbered 1-95 (ex: ECON 1 or MATH 20C).  Please review all course prerequisites.

International Students

Are you an undergraduate student currently studying in a university or college outside the United States?

If so, you may be considered an international student.  UC San Diego Summer Session welcomes international students who meet specific English proficiency requirements.  Students must meet the university English proficiency requirements:

  • TOEFL minimum scores:
    • internet-based: 83
    • Paper-based: 550
  • IELTS minimum score of 7 (Academic module)
  • AP Exam accepted scores:
    • English Language and Composition: 3, 4, 5
    • English Literature and Composition: 3, 4, 5
  • IB Exam accepted scores:
    • English (Lang. A) higher level: 5, 6, 7
    • English (Lang. A) standard level: 6 or higher
